THESIS STATEMENT

The research shows that Malaysia motorcyclist fatality rate continues to rise every year, while teenagers hold the highest percentage of all victims of fatality. In Malaysia, for those participating in dangerous illegal racing, the word ‘Mat Rempit’ is given. A lot of research has found that young teenagers are more comfortable to engage as Mat Rempit due to many factors like influences from others, curiosity, lack of family attention, poverty and mass media impact. Nevertheless, awareness of responsible riding, release stress and aggressive throughout proper channel is essential for them.

However, currently in Malaysia, there is not enough provision of motorcycle race training facilities and place to promote the awareness to be a responsible rider. Therefore, there is a need to study of place providing proper racing training program and stress relief centre for all racing enthusiast and the teenager who seek for ways to relieve their stress and aggression.

Hence, the objective of this research is to produce a new concept of Motorcycle Community Centre that help the Mat Rempit to investigate their needs and preferences in space and to promote an enjoyable and safe environment for bike racing. The study will produce an appropriate place for the rider to develop their racing skill with proper guidance by a professional trainer in a safe environment and as a transmission medium of the legal rules and regulations on riding and motorcycle customising. The Motorcycle Community Centre also will be a platform to promote the awareness of safe riding and sharing the riding related knowledge with the young motorcyclist by authorities.

This will be one of the communication channels in terms of both physical and psychological aspect among the motorcyclists and the related authorities to create a safer riding environment which benefits to the public, government, motorcycle enthusiast and the motorcycle reseller for improving motorcycle culture in Malaysia.
