San Peng flat is built by Local Authorities to help the low-income group who cannot afford to buy a house, to provide a home for them to have a place to stay. Still, nowadays, the high development of the surrounding environment, economic instability and the social upheaval cause social alienation to the San Peng Flat area.

Social alienation is more broad concept used by sociologists to describe the experience of individuals or groups that feel disconnected from the values, norms, practices, and social relations of their community or society for a variety of social structural reason.  

 

Those experiencing social alienation do not share the common, mainstream values of society, are not well integrated into society, its groups and institutions, and are socially isolated from the mainstream.
